This mast is designed with a unique mechanism that will release the antenna wire from the mast head in the event the wire should break due to birds or other foreign object contact. When the tension on the wire drops below approximately 18 kg (40 lbs), the chuck jaws will automatically open, thus permitting the wire to be release and fall free of the aircraft. Accompanying tension unit P/N 15167-( ) and termination unit 15154 would also be required to provide a release mechanism at the other end of the antenna.
