PN DSC740070 is the overall aircraft lightning protection kit for the CRJ100/200 winglets and horizontal end caps. It consists of left winglet, right winglet, left horizontal end cap, and right horizontal end cap kits. The kits are attached to the trailing edge and grounded to the airframe. The kits consist of aluminum strips with DG PN 16920-2 null-strike static dischargers strategically positioned to intercept ensuing lightning strikes and divert them to the aluminum strips. In addition to dissipating static electric charges, the DG PN 16920-2 incorporates a lightning diverter element called “Strikeguard”. The Strikeguard guides the lightning to the discharger’s metal shank. The metal shank is designed to confine lightning current “burning and erosion” damage to the discharger itself, thereby protecting the aircraft structure. The metal shank transfers the lightning current to the grounded aluminum strip, preventing or minimizing damage to the winglet/endcap structure. The cross-sectional area of the aluminum strip is designed to withstand multiple lightning strikes of Zone 1B magnitudes.
